Default New SIM card on Sunday

I have read several suggestions to use Orange Communications across from the Banco Popular on PC. I will be arriving late on Saturday night the 23rd. Will I be able to get a new SIM card and load for my cell phone on a Sunday?

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think not.
I do believe they are all closed on Sundays.

Now you can also use Claro (former Verizon), as it also started offering GSM service. So if you just need a chip for your GSM phone, any dealer can help you (there are more Claro dealers, many mom-and-pop cell stores are affiliated to Claro, though unofficially).

Claro - They are less bureaucratic with activations than Orange (e.g. if your passport or cedula is not in their system, they have to fax it to Santo Domingo, to get activation code) - Claro only needs ANY form of ID, including a foreign ID or DL. Orange accepts passports only. Rates are comparable, Claro has a little better coverage.

Your choice.

Hi, sorry to but into your discussion but I have a question. Can I use a Claro sim in my unlocked Motorola from Canada?? I'll be coming down soon and don't want to come back home to a 600$ phone bill. Thought I'd get my phone unlocked and purchase a sim in the DR and then use phone cards...like everybody else.
Thanks for any info

Default where is Claro

the comments were that there were Claro associated with mom and pop oprrations all over and may be open on Sunday. Where is a typical location to start looking for a Claro dealer?

If the phone is unlocked, should be able to purchase the sim card, pop it in and make calls, When you get home put the rogers or what ever card back in and your ready to go.

I do it all the time when I go back to the US, with tmobil/orange.
