This is an example of the ideal posting size, 600 X 360, 71 kb.

I've gone down to 800x300 @ 72dpi which brings them down to about 100kb. It's the ones I first posted before at 1000 x 400 that still over stretches the panel... that will not be the case again when a new page starts.
Do you think we should go less than 800 wide? I'd gladly... but it will get kind of small for those wide shots...

I'm not sure, but you can usually tell how they will come out if you preview the post before posting it.
PS: You can also post clickable links for the full size pics.

Competition ...
I have a store on Beller and personally, I am thrilled that Walmart/La Sirena are coming to town. Competition is good, especially in Puerto Plata where finding interesting or quality products is somewhat of an effort.
I plan trips on a monthly or bi-monthly basis to Santiago and sometimes to Santo Domingo to stock up on meat and other things that I just can't find here in Puerto Plata, at any price.
One of the biggest advantages that I can see is that the development of this project and its implementation will surely bring people who before went to Santiago for shopping, to Puerto Plata. People from Cabarete, Sosua and everything in between, as well as people from Luperon, Imbert, and beyond there as well. More people = more traffic, I suppose. However, those people just might find something else they like here and shop a little more and perhaps even come into my store? Who knows!
Regardless, the way that Puerto Plata has been growing, it is time to have a little more diversity, more selection, and more competition for the consumer.
Today, I had to buy platano for my Coffee Shop & Natural Juice Bar as I serve Dominican breakfast as well in the mornings. Because many of the vendors were off today, there was little in the way of selection. The one vendor who did have platano, raised his price to 15 pesos! Thursday, we paid 6, which was already 2 to 3 cents higher than the price a month or so ago. Ridiculous!
Hopefully, a little healthy competion will control this ridiculous price-gouging a little and people won't be so inclined to try to take advantage of whatever situation comes along to either raise their prices or provide less than quality merchandise and products. One can only hope!

I pass by there almost every day. They are digging and digging. Basically leveling the whole plot which is huge and there are thousands of cubic meters of dirt being moved away. The "house" has been dismantled in an extraordinarily cautious manner... literally piece by piece, apparently saving wood and materials.
I think they will be done with the gross leveling this coming week. I will then post new pictures.
Btw. I applaud the positive and competitive mindset displayed in donnaparadise's post!

As much as I love shopping, when has a Wallmart ever added to beauty of the urban environment? Does anyone have pictures of the architectural drawing of the proposed development? Will it be mixed used or just a big box and parking lot that hollows out the existing retail area as it has in so many areas of NA?
