Default Night life

Hi, so I have a question. A few friends and I are going to Puerto Plata for spring break in the Riu Hotel. Is there good night life nearby? Clubs? Discos to dance reggaeton? suggestions

Thanks soo much

Puerto Plata - go to Playa Dorada...there are several clubs, including a new one called Coco Bongo..the others are Mangu, Roadway, and Hemmingways. There are dozens of "local clubs" in POP as well.

Sosua - on the main street, Pedro Clisante, there are many bars and 3 big discos...many working girls, if that's what you're looking for

Cabarete - several bars and 2 discos right on the beach, all next to each other...younger sports-minded party crowd...sort of feels like a smaller Ibiza, or a little bit like South Beach...

All these require a cab or car, Playa Dorada - 10 mins, Sosua about 30 mins, Cabarete about 40 mins away.

This is true..I assumed it was known there are working girls everywhere...but Sosua has, by far, the most per capita

Another club worth checking out is the Lighthouse Disco at Ocean World Casino and Marina....very nicely done and usually a more "upscale" crowd than the other places mentioned (I don't know Pasha though). It's also pretty close to Riu, but it's also fairly isolated.

I am going to assumethat you have done your homework on the DR, and are going to be wise and (fairly) sober if you plan on going disco-hopping!

I highlighted some key points in your OP, as spring break to me means you are a group of fairly young men and the second clue was reggaeton! LOL

There is quite a distance between Sosua and the Rui hotels, and if you are planning on making the trip, especially late at night, be careful. Keep your wits about you, don't act all drunk and disorderly as you will be easy pickins!

Isn't there a pub tour that these guys could try out first to see what is what, and then go from there?

Or am I just being too motherly??

Marlie

You are too far away from the spring break parties/action. You need to be in playa dorada or Sosua or Cabarette.

The RIU in POP is a good distance from the nightlife of POP. Better to stay in Playa Dorada or Sosua. Getting back to your resort at the end of the evening might be a problem.

I assume that the poster has already made their reservations. the RIU has a dance club, smallish and limited to those in the 3 RIU hotels.

For this type of music you can go to Playa Dorada clubs. All 5 clubs play this kind of music. Don't go until at least 11 pm as the clubs will be empty. You received good advice - stay fairly sober and keep your wits about you. ALL clubs have "girls for hire" Be careful. And understand you cannot take them back to your hotel.

Taxis are available at the RIU and at Playa Dorada to get back home. You will have no problem getting around.

If you want local music, just ask and I will post a round up of local clubs in Puerto Plata area.
