More on donation?

Hubby and I are coming down in Feb. on the 16th. I just read the other thread on Donations and from what I understand from that thread, it is not very smart to give it to someone on the resort to give out? Is this correct? Bad me!!! We have done this before!!!! Sorry! We are staying at the Holiday Village Golden and would like to donate school supplies etc. Is the best place to do this is in Cabarete then? Also could you tell me what is needed. I am more than happy to bring school supplies, but if there are other things please let us know!
