Ya, at Club 59 you also need your helmet !?!?

But for real, go almost in the middle of the Sosua beach and then swim about 100 meter out, there is a fairly large reef you can snorkle around. Some fish there but nothing spectacular.

You can also pay the guys that take you on a boat about 5-10 minute to another nearby beach (towards Casa Marina area, you can also go there yourself). Although I haven't heard those reefs being anything special.

I have snorkled off the Kenya's coast in Africa and I must say that is a totally different experience ! But that never put me off snorkling in Sosua everytime I'm there.

Sosua Bay Beach snorkeling is decent and easy.
The snorkeling mentioned above near Casa Marina is 30 feet deep, so not really worth it, unless you have lungs like a Japanese pearl diver.
If you want to get into some world class snorkeling, get out to Rio San Juan.
I'm not saying that it's like the Great Barrier Reef, but it is excellent.

As long as the locals keep spearing 4 inch strawberry snapper, the snorkeling won´t be fantastic anytime soon. That said, in the middle of the bay is a decent coral structure.
