If it's OK to say "Dominicana" as the country name in Spanish, why not "Dominican" in English? I noticed people say it and am guilty of doing this myself in both languages. Santo Domingo is better, but then people think you mean the capital. Saying "The Dominican Republic" is just too much of a mouthful.

Anyway in my view part of the idea of gaining international work experience is picking up different languages in the process, so I don't think languages should be a prerequisite.

Both terms are incorrect.
The fact that certain people use the terms only reflects their ignorance or a slobby use of language.
