Default The Whales are in!

Just wanted to remind everyone that the humpback whales have arrived at their breeding grounds in Samana Bay and will be here until mid-March. No! It is NOT possible that you live here and have not seen them? Go quickly and quietly and perhaps no one will find out. truly a great wonder of the world.

Has anyone ever posted photos of the whales on this site. I don't believe I've ever seen any.

Men used to hunt whales with hand held harpoons:

''Be it distinctly recorded here,'' wrote Herman Melville in ''Moby-Dick,'' ''that the Nantucketers were the first among mankind to harpoon with civilized steel the great Sperm Whale; and that for half a century they were the only people of the whole globe who so harpooned him.''

from Nantucket, Aglow In Shades Of Gray - New York Times

They're still hunted but thankfully not in Samana Bay.
