Default World Poker Showdown @ Ocean World Casino May 9-18

Are you ready to play against the pros?

The World Poker Showdown series comes to the Dominican Republic for the first time, after previously being held in Costa Rica, Bahamas, St Maarten, and on cruise ships.

There will be two daily tournaments plus cash games during this time period. Tournaments will start at $200 buy-in to $2,650 for the main event. We expect between 75 and 200 players for each event. These players will be from the US, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Bahamas, and of course from all parts of the DR.

Sun Village and Hacienda, the two closest hotels, have special rates for rooms during this time.

Most live tournaments in the DR actually charge more, e.g. the tournament in the Majestic late last year, and others in the east where players got raped.

We always charge 10% at Ocean World but this is a WPS event where they control the tournament.

Keep in mind that the WPS is bringing in professional dealers and tournament directors. You pay 10-15% on the internet already, here you have live games with some drink and snacks included.

There is a production company filming the event, apparently it will be pitched to FOX sports and Scores TV to be aired along with other WPS events like Costa Rica and Bahamas that were filmed also recently. When and where it will be aired I don't know.

People can watch but you cannot be directly next to table.

Please note that the main event dates have been changed from previous schedules that are out there published. The main event (due to the election) will now be May 17 (start 2pm) and 18 (restart at noon).

We are happy to announce that the final table at the main event will be filmed by a production company that is currently negotiating with Fox Sports, Scores TV, and some Latin American and European channels to show the event.

The first 100 entry fees (tournaments start Friday 2pm) will receive a free US$50 Voucher for a free deposit from Purple Lounge, an online gaming site that is sponsoring the World Poker Showdown. Many players and dealers arrived yesterday, we already had good action on the cash tables last night.
