my place was quiet .. and the place I saw that had the kitchen and 2 bedrooms with 2 baths seemed quiet as well.

so they are out there in cabarete.

All the places i stayed in Sosua were off the beach.

and the places I satyed in Playa Dorado and Puerto Plata were not "on the beach" so to speak.

the property was on the beach but the rooms were quite far, with no view of the beach.

good luck

Do you have the names of these places?
I would love to research them

thanks Bob

Ah! In that case he probably can't help. The other places you could look into in Puerto Plata are Aparthotel Lomar, Portofino and Monte Silva. None would fit my definition of 'quaint' but they are not expensive. Phone numbers and info have been posted in a number of previous threads.

The place i stayed at was the Villa Taina, it was $120 per night...

I could easily see the beach straight out my sliders...and I could walk to the beach in a straight line in 15 seconds about.

the other place with the double bedrooms and baths with the kitchen and large living area(perfect for a group 4-5 people) was right next door The Cabarete Palm Beach Condos or something similar to that name.....

the room that was the closest to the beach as i described was $175 per night.

here is a lionk that may help some in Cabarete.....There are many places i dont know about, so gather as much info from everyone here to help you.

If the name isnt correct, I come back and edit ...

For your information hillybilly...we are both 50/50 on this deal...so no need for pointing fingers in my situation...My fiance owns his business in SD and works also for STREAM so please no comments on who`s paying for what...this is not my first time in DR but our first time off resort so we are researching on places to stay and things to do for our time together...i`ve just came back a month ago and planning on returning this upcoming october 2008 to marry so we do have to somewhat watch our budget...We both make decent salaries but i dont want to spend it in all one shot if you know what i mean

Hi Lili,

We have stayed a couple of times at Casa Blanca in Cabarete.

It is definitely a "quaint" hotel with small pool & has some nice rooms just off the pool with small kitchens. It reminds me of renting a cottage because the decor is a little mismatched but the peacefulness of the hotel & kindness of the owners William & Dorothy make up for that.

The owners are Canadian and extremely nice...bring sweets around the pool in the afternoons.

We normally stay in one of the rooms off the pool and pay about $300.00 CAD for the week. You can pay in CAD or US or pesos. There are cheaper rooms as well if you opt out of the kitchen.

Their website is Welcome and are located a few doors down from Supermarket Janet.

The beach is a few steps away but the nicer part of the beach is about a 5 minute walk to the center of town.

We really like it here because it is really quiet but close to the action if you want to walk along the main street or go out at night for dinner or to a disco.

Thanks Sangria...this looks like a charming place with reasonable prices...i'll put this one on my list. It's nice to know that the owners are CA'ians. Is there close by food market where we can go puchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and other goods? I like to dine out but i love to cook and do something very romantic and special for us. We will be doing some daytime and nightime activities....any suggestions?...we are in our mid-thirties so we are up for ideas?....even meeting some DR1 members would be great to get together for some cheers!!!!

Supermarket Janet is only a few steps away & is the biggest supermarket in Cabarete. You can get everything you need here and carry it back!

We made almost all of our meals there & ate just outside our rooms beside the pool. The poolside rooms have a little semi-private area with table & 2 chairs which is nice.

The last time was in March & we stayed in Studio B. It was Semana Santa so not too much to choose from by the time we booked.

I would suggest Studio A as Studio B has 2 single beds to push together (wasnt the ideal honeymoon suite!! but it was ok). Both Studio A & B are pool side and quite functional.

I have to admit that we are pretty relaxed people so we spent our days by the pool, playing cards & listening to music. We didn't venture too far except to wander along the main street or we spent a couple days at the main beach infront of the sans souci hotel.

The hotel also has free wifi if you have a laptop.

We love Cabarete for the atmosphere, beach, relaxation.
The disco's are ok if you are into that and Jose O'shea's is a great place to spend your evenings too.

I am sure there are others that can make some suggestions about what to do for day trips. The activecabarete website also has some good ideas.
