Default DR in August...booked!!!
I'm flying in POP August 9th to the 23rd. My fiancé will meet me at the airport and we will stay in POP area for one week then off to the capital for the next. We are looking for a small, quaint, inexpensive apartment/condo in the area ~ Sosua, Cabarete, Puerto Plata...anyone has any info or connections?

Will you have your own transport or will you need taxis/guaguas/conchos?
How do you mean "quaint" ?

We are probably will rent a car for a couple of weeks depending if we can get a good deal.

What I mean by quaint is a place that has character, charming, close to the beach would be an asset...and has a kitchen so we can prepare meals instead of always going out to eat....

any suggestions?

To be honest with you not really - certainly not in the POP area - there are more apartments and condos in Sosua/Cabarete. Puerto Plata leans more to hotels and not necessarily falling under the quaint or charming headings!!
I and some of the others on here often stay at the Castillo del Ambar. It is worth a look at the website (that costs nothing!)

I walked through a few places in Cabarete that seemdd like what you describe. For my last trip I really wanted to "be on the beach".

I rented a hotel room that was as on the beach as you could get. It didnt have a kitchenette....but some of the other rooms I had looked at , did and they were as close to the beach as i was.

my place was quiet .. and the place I saw that had the kitchen and 2 bedrooms with 2 baths seemed quiet as well.

so they are out there in cabarete.

All the places i stayed in Sosua were off the beach.

and the places I satyed in Playa Dorado and Puerto Plata were not "on the beach" so to speak.

the property was on the beach but the rooms were quite far, with no view of the beach.

the Web site for Castillo del Ambar has no infos on rates.
Do you know how much they go from?


Any other places you would recommend?

As far as I know -
1100 pesos per night per appt (not person) without breakfast
1300 pesos per night per appt with breakfast.
Kitchenette isn't very clear in photos - stove, fridge freezer, sink ,pots pans etc.
