And the higher-ups won't push because they too are beneficiaries. In fact the last 'pushing' from the capital I recall was November 2006 when a posse from SD took out Fiscal Ceballos in Sosua, who, for all his faults, was dismantling puntos..............

It would appear that no-one replaced him as the Serpico of Sosua but then with his killing as an example, who can blame them?

The latest rumour is that every PN cop in Sosua, from the Colonel on down, has been replaced with new ones, as of some time yesterday.
That seems a bit hard to swallow, but it's probably true that a whole bunch of them have been replaced, including the Colonel.

It helps break up the corrupt status quo.
It's only a hiccup, but it can have a certain positive effect for awhile.

Just a different group and a different day, but we can always hope that the new guys are better than the old ones.

And it also spreads it to other parts of DR - these guys (the ones deemed 'negligent' ), I gather, are facing a 30 day suspension after which they are being reassigned. To Court proceedings? No - to service in SD.
