I can't answer this question but some of the other posters may be able to. Do the local guides at the falls speak english well? (or do you speak spanish if they don't).

I had an experience with guides in Santo Domingo that had memorized english phrases that they repeated over and over but couldn't converse or answer questions.

I know some of the guides at Iguana Mama definitely speak english pretty well. Could be a deciding factor.

Hmm, that's a good question...unfortunately none of us speak Spanish well enough to get by easily. I better start learning some phrases...

Edit: good to know the Iguana Mama tour guides speak good English, I'm sure we'll be working with them, too, at least for other things (mountain biking!).

Many speak enough English for you to easily buy tickets, have a great time with the guides, and buy lunch/beverages afterward.

It shouldn't be a problem.

Hey Cobraboy, any other suggestions for things that you think are really worth doing while we're in DR? Like a personal top 3 or 5 places to see or things to do, if it were you and you had only 7 days? What would you do?

Wow! 7 days. And you're going to be based in POP? To see the whole DR, to get a full flavor of this wondrous place, it'd take almost a month, non stop! One reason we're based in Jarabacoa is so we can access the entire island equally, we're in the geographic center of the DR, MOL...

It really depends on what you like: lounging on the beach like a tourist, or getting to those places few tourists ever get to experience.

You don't motorcycle, so I suggest going on one of our tours, the Northeast or Southwest, in our brawny 15-passenger van (it follows our motorcycle riders, so van guests go where they do, and experience the exact same things, less bugs in the teeth ). It's a new offering from MotoCaribe, based on requests from folks like yourself.

One thing for sure: to see things for a week, you will definitely need a stout car or SUV and an adventurous spirit. A taxi would work, but the drivers and vehicles are unknowns. You could go through a typical tour company, but you'll feel like cattle, and it'll get expensive.

Good luck and enjoy!

Go down the coast one day and visit the Gri Gri lagoon and then go a little farther and spend some time at Playa Grande.

Hey Cobraboy, I'm just realizing I never thanked you for your post, my apologies. We will look into your tours the next time around for sure. I think that budget constraints will probably have us on our own this time, unfortunately. As far as what we're looking for, definitely less-so the tourist stuff, more out-of-the-way stuff.

Baker, thanks for the suggestions as well, I will check those places out!
