Travel Santo Domingo to Samana

We'd like to travel by bus from Santo Domingo to Samana. How long would this trip take? Is there a bus service that uses the new highway?

We're traveling with a toddler and hope that we can find a nice way to make this journey. Any tips greatly appreciated!

Their services to Samaná may still run on both routes so best to specify that you want to travel via the highway.

The 8.00 and 10.00 am as well as the 2.30 and 4.00 (4.30?) busses take the new highway. From Samana to Santo Domingo same times in morning and afternoon. Costs 300 Pesos / 9 US$ per person. Luggage can be stored in luggage department.
It needs 2,5-3 hours to Samana (Depending on how long it takes to get out of Santo Domingo). At the bus station in Samana are waiting Taxis and Guaguas to the surrounding villages.
Take a sweater and a scarf, the busses are cold, AC only work at max.

Thanks especially for the tips on which buses actually take the new highway. We're hoping to go to Las Galeras for a couple days of beautiful weather and places - this will be a great help.

With regard to going to Las Galeras: The last guagua to Las Galeras leaves from Samana at 6.00 pm, so the last Caribe tour bus will not arrive in time to catch a guagua to Las Galeras, which are running every half hour during daytime.
A Taxi would cost between 35-45 Dollar.
