Default Helicopter ride to Santo Domingo

I read somewhere that it is possible to book a helicopter flight to Santo Domingo from El Portillo. Any idea how to make a resarvation and the cost for 2 people.

Is it easier to fly into Herrera and transfer into Zona Colonial?

Thanks,
Justin

I wouldn't take the helicopter. They do very little maintenance. One just crashed 2 months ago killing everyone. But maybe they've changed.

I would think it would be way expensive, as compared to a small plane.

Herrera is no more. It would have to be to La Isabela or one of the private heliports in the city, like the one at Hotel Santo Domingo.

About twice and no room for any luggage.

I thought it wasn't too expensive. A Lonely Planet guide I was reading said it was $65 a person from El Portillo to SD. Having never been in a helicopter and it costs 3-4 times that in the states I thought it would be a great way to see the area.

The place mentioned is
Helico Tropical Services
809/240-6607

Any idea if this company is still around? I will try to call tomorrow but my spanish isn't quite good enough to schedule a helicopter flight.

thanks for the advice.
