Question currency exchange

Hello all, I was wandering if anyone has an idea of the best place to exchange our money (we're from the UK). We were told that we can use pesos and US dollars but dont know which is best or what to take more of if both are necessary. Also should we exchange it at home or whilst in DR?
Thanks.

Default Money in DR coming from Europe

You'll deal in pesos most of the time but for some things prices may be quoted in USD -- taxis, hotels often, tourist trips . . .

Bring traveller's cheques in Sterling if you're going to be in a busy centre. Otherwise you may be better off to buy USD cheques (that would then be "checks") in the UK since other currencies may be comparatively down-discounted. That is to say in Santiago or Sosua you will probably get a fair rate for your Sterling, but in Las Galeras you may have trouble finding someone to take it off your hands.

But Bring your ATM/ABM "banking" card. Most of the time they work and the charges are usually not bad. I've heard that four digit passwords are best.

There are threads around DR1 on this topic that cover the whole money thing pretty well. Have a search.

Hi Sibby & Carl,

You don't need to worry about money exchange it is best to take US travel chqs and to take some dollars you can also buy peso now in England which you get about 61 to the the pound at the moment and it is handing to take some with you. There is a couple of banks in las terrenas and your be pleasently surprised they are more efficient than they are in England.

I have had an awful time with travelers checks in the dominican, it just seems to be difficult to find a place that whats to cash them. US dollars work very well for me, depending on the exchange rate. Hey by the way what is the current exchange rate? I'll be back in about two weeks.
