Reminds me of the Catholic Church, switching around their pedophile priests to other parishes. Maybe the burglarized hotel in Las Terrenas can sue the Policia Nacional. I hope they don't send the thieving cops to Azua!

They should make an example out of this and suit the National Policy.

possible to fix the problem?
yes....but it will take time.... and might get worse before it gets better.
LT is more like a little wild west "boom town" right now and as it grows things will get better (i hope). the business owners, town "fathers" (whatever) and the people have to do whatever they can to protect themselves, their businesses, familes, etc. (w/ whatever it takes) until the gov't gets' it act together (which may take a while).
remember...you get what u pay for (and the cops don't make squat here and the temptations and opportunities are too great and too easy to pass up for these (and other cheap low- lifes & thugs).
in the meantime....most of the folks here seem to know u need to use common sense when taking care of ones self. the crooks and criminals (everywhere) will always look for the quick "easy" target....so do not make yourself one. something can always happen....but don't make it easy for them.

What happened to the attackers (rumour has it there were three, as one was waiting in a car...)?
Caught, transferred, promoted, or even jailed...?

DR is the only country I know where the electricity company has no lights, the water company is out of water, gas stations have no gas, the cops are the criminals, and last but not least, you can't wear a hat in the bank but its okay to carry a gun!

Yesterday, the day that the new police force took function, there was an armed robbery in Loma Regis (in Coson). It happened at 5:30pm, 3 thugs with guns and wearing masks.
