I suppose you'll be landing in Sta Barbara de Samana? I think I remember seeing some taxi's there, and I'm sure if a cruise ship arrives they'll all be heading for the port. But I'm sorry, I haven't used taxis in Samana, but I'm sure people here who know Samana better can tell you more about prices and such.

We were at El Limon in February. WE actually rode an mules, not horses. One of our party was a nine times veteran of spoinal fusions so he walked. It took him about the same time as our mounted trip. It can be muddy and rocky. I think you should allow at least half an hour from Samana to any of the places that give guided tours to the falls. The road is well paved and the private taxis will wait for you, just decide the price before you depart from Samana and yiu can even have the driver write down the price so that there are no misunderstandings.
