The $100 for a cab ride seems pretty high. Too bad. I was starting to picture myself sitting under a palm tree, eating fish from the fat lady's tent at the end of the beach.
Why don't you try and negotiate a better price? It is not too difficult, just say you will pay 2,000Rd or $60 RT. There will be more taxi's there than customers. Let it be known among them what you want and there is an excellent chance someone will take you. You can also look for someone else on board to share the expense. If you can't get your price don't go.

You will be missing out on something you can't find on the rest of your trip, this I CAN guarantee.

Hey Vince,
Do you like to see what you are missing?

First is a picture of the "Fish Shack", at the west end of Playa Rincon

Next is a picture of "Ruby Restaurant" at the opposite end of Playa Rincon.

Near "Ruby Restaurant" is "Minin Restaurant" she has been at this location for ages.

My personal favorite is Ruby.
Maybe, these pictures will change your mind...and try the fry fish on the beach, at Playa Rincon.

P.S. I do have a embarrassing picture of my companion salivating over a huge fry red snapper.

Here are some more pictures from Playa Rincon.
We hired a private Taxi from Cabarete for the whole day to go to Samana Whale watching, then to Las Galeras, from there to Playa Rincon. We had a great fresh fish dinner on the beach and took a boat ride into the lagune at Playa Rincon. Just beautiful!

Thanks drloca. I love to take photos and I have a ton more.
It was an incredible day. We tried to make it to the falls at El Limon that day, but we ran out of time. So we just savored the drive back and stopped at a little road side place on the way back to Cabarete to have a drink and dance some Merengue and Bachata. I can't wait to be back next month for the duration of the "Winter"

Have a great cruise and enjoy yourself. Just remember that those ships are not running on Dominican time! Be back on time.

Hi VinceD, I won't be going on a cruise, although I would love to catch one at some point when they are starting to take on passengers in the Dr. I think I read something to that effect on the DR1 travel news.
In the meantime, we will enjoy the Winter in our Condo in Cabarete and we hope to be there by the end of November. No definite date yet, because we need to get all the papers for our cats to travel in order first.

Default you CAN see playa rincon in 6 hours!

Just wanted to give you all an update. I got back from my trip last week and I DID INDEED get to Playa Rincon! Unfortunately, it was a rather cloudy day. It was raining in Samana when our ship arrived. I decided to catch a cab to Las Galeras to see if the weather was any better there. I was able to negotiate a price of $70 RT for 4 of us which was to include a visit to boca del diablo tambien. I told the driver that the beach was our priority and if it wasn't raining, I wanted to go to Las Galeras first and then see if we would have enough time for boca. He assured us it would not be raining there and he was correct. Since the sun was trying to peak through, we went ahead and got a boat to take us to playa rincon. He said it would difficult to drive there because the roads were a little washed out from recent rains. The boat was $50 RT for 4 of us. We had fried fish on the beach from Minin restaurant. (Ruby's seemed closed). Went for a swim and some snorkeling (didn't see much b/c of the recent rain). It was beautiful because of it is so untouched there still. I can only imagine how it would look if the sun was out. My wife and I went for a walk and couldn't see anyone near us for a half mile in both directions. Now that's what I call a walk on the beach! On the way back we decided not to try boca del diablo since it would be cutting it close. We had our driver take us to town to buy some brugal from a colmado and some other things. And yes...we did make it back in time for our ship. So now you now, it is possible to see Playa rincon from samana in only 6 hours (about 7 actually). Thanks to all for your advice. If it had not been for your suggestions, I may not have tried it.

Vince D.

Here's some pics to enjoy...
