Hi,

our friends have taken the new highway last week and it took them 2 hours until the end of the highway!!
Against the presumptions given before in this thread, this PPP seems not that bad. By the way such a general opinion about PPP is questionable but no futher discussion about that.
The highway seems to be built quickly, it is not paved all the way but bigger parts, the bridges are not all built so you have to leave and enter the highway several times depending also on current construction activities. It is necessary to be able to ask for the way as there are of course no signs. There is the possibility to get lost, but it seems worth to try it as it is a 2 hours time saving from the other roads, especially considering the way from San Francisco de Macoris to Samana.

Wishing you all a safe ride!

Berliner

The guaguas to Las Terenas, and El Limon use part of this road every day,,,They do not take it from Las Americas highway, they link up with it north of the new airport in SD,Las Isabella, and it has cut the trip by 11/2 to 2 hours.

also, the road from el catey airport, just south of Sanchez,to las terrenas,is under construction, and when completed, will cut another 1/2 hour or so and a lousy 1 hour ride over the mountain from sanchez to las terrenas.

Default Current Status Samana-Santo Domingo Highway?

I just called Maximo to get a quote as my daughter will be arriving to Santo Domingo and I want to get her to Samana. He quoted me $500 one way.
I had asked at the Samana airport for flight information. There is a charter flight company (I think it's AirDom). They charge RD 10,000 (US$300) for up to three passengers.

Default smooth sailing on new highway

We just ended our vacation with a ride from Las Terrenas to the SDQ airport. Door to door, our trip was exactly three hours on Sunday, June 1st. We took the new highway from the north near El Catey all the way to the end in Santo Domingo, just outside SDQ. There is only one bridge remaining to be finished and a few sections of pavement that still need to be installed. Otherwise, the road was in pretty good shape. Once the two items are taken care of, the trip will probably be just under 2-1/2 hrs door to door. We are looking forward to the completion of the road from El Catey to LT. That should cut down the entire trip from LT to SDQ to about 2 hrs total without trying to break the sound barrier in a taxi. Driving habits and speed will be the determing factors.

Are the toll booths working. Anyone driving on this road, please let us know when the toll booths start charging their RD$325.

The toll booths are open with people receiving the tolls fees as of yesterday. There were armed security personnel at all three of the toll booths.
