Default Puerto Plata -> Las Galeras

All --

we're returning to DR and this time heading to Las Galeras. We're arriving in Puerto Plata around 2:30PM and, preferably, would like to head out immediately to Las Galeras:

1. Does a decent LARGE bus run from Puerto Plata to Las Galeras, or do I need to go to Samana and then take a more local transport? Sorry, we've done the very small local vans across DR and don't want to repeat.

2. If there is a large bus, does anyone know schedule (to Samana or Las Galeras)? Can we leave that same afternoon?

3. If we have to overnight in Puerto Plata to wait for the bus, any suggestions for a decent hotel (USD50-75) near Bus Station?

4. Any idea as to Taxi cost? We're saving money on the flight so we may splurge on a taxi.

5. Any other options to get to Las Galeras? Small prop planes, etc?

6. Finally, how long should we expect the trip to be from Puerto Plata to Las Galeras?

Thanks very much for any advice/spirits,

seth j hersh

Medium size bus to Samana, then local transport the rest of the way.

No. It leaves Sosua at 7 AM in front of the police station, is a half size bus with a Samana sign on it.
Just stand there and wave it down.

POP airport is in Sosua and there are hotels galore to choose from.

There may be flights to El Portillo, then you would have to take public transport or taxi the rest of the way.
Someone else will have to give you the flight info, assuming there is a flight.

Sosua to the town of Samana, approx. 4 hours and an hour or less the rest of the way.

Default Thanks, All

thanks everyone for all the good info. we're off in less than 8 hours.

Las Galeras seems to be a true end-of-the-road place, particularly as evidenced by the taxi fare. unless we hook up a share, we'll probably do the caribe bus the following moring from POP to Samana.

spirits,

seth

Caribe tours does not offer service from POP to Samana. You will have to get the "purple bus" from outside the hospital.
