Can anyone tell me anything about this very small organization run out of a library in Las Terrenas? They say they are a totally volunteer organization and want people to come and help run the library. You have to pay to do this, so I am wanting to confirm it's legitimacy before sending any money or booking a trip. Thanks.

There's a poster here called mountainannie who knows this organisation well & speaks highly of them. You might want to contact her by PM if she doesn't see this thread.

I visit this establishment at least every other week, they have a most excellent library - Anacoanda _ . Every time I go there always seems to be crowds of kids about. I have seen that they give them language lessons, for adults too. The kids are also occupied with drawing, playing cards (not poker) and practising writing. Volunteers appear to come from all over the world, a lot of youngsters from North America, but also Europe and other caribbean islands. They do a kind of Summer Camps which include running about making a noise games. If you don't have an email address for them let me know and I'll get it for you.

They are legitimate. They opened the first and only library in town.
What do you have to pay for?

Default Thanks for the feedback!

This is very helpful. Yes, I do know the website but I wanted to make sure everything was legit. They have you pay a fee for volunteering which helps to keep the library going. I don't mind the fee as long as it is going to the cause. I would like to contact mountainannie, but what is PM? How do I contact this person. Thanks for the info.

I think she's on vacation right now, she'll no doubt see this when she's online again.

I am also wondering how difficult it is to find safe, reliable transportation from the bus stop in Sanchez to Las Terrenas? It seems kind of sketchy. What is the best and safest way to do this?
