Not even close Nals. see what a difference it makes!

I believe the multiple choice poll shows a more accurate expression of why people come here.

These were the results in the other version of this poll when it reached a participation of 30 voters:

Due to differences in the way the percentages were calculated by DR1's software in the multiple choice version, to make the comparison, a quick calculation resulted in the following % of each category:

A) Family, friends, or acquaintances (including lovers) 14%
B) Sense of adventure 18%
C) In search of a simpler life 18%
D) Job or career related 12%
E) The country (culture, weather, natural beauty, etc) 20%
F) Retirement 11%
G) Escaping problems in your country 2%
H) Other 6%

As its clearly visible, the results from the multiple choice poll vs. this one were mostly similar.

A divergence of 0 percentage points can be observed for choices:

A

2 to 3 percentage points for choices:

E, F,G

4 percentage points in choices:

C, H

And more than 8 and 9 percentage points in the following choices, respectively:

B, D

For an even clearer view, here are the results of each choice in each poll (the left is for this poll and the right is the multiple choice poll, the one's with divergences with 3 or less percentage points are in blue; divergence of 4 percentage points in green, and divergence of 5 or more percentage points in red):

A) 14% 14%
B) 10% 18%
C) 14% 18%
D) 21% 12%
E) 21% 20%
F) 10% 11%
G) 0% 2%
H) 10% 6%

As can be seen, the two polls gave somewhat similar results with no significant divergences in most choices. As such, the other poll might be closed.

Prior to doing such, I will give 24 hours (until Dec 6, 2007 9:32PM Eastern Standard Time - United States) for any other suggestion(s) in favor of keeping open or closing the other poll.

The final decision will be made based on such forthcoming comments.

I suppose it all comes down as to how you present your interpretation. To ME

A) 14% 14% ............. = 0% difference
B) 10% 18% ............. = 95% difference UP
C) 14% 18% ............. = 25% difference UP
D) 21% 12% ............. = 75% difference DOWN
E) 21% 20% ............. = 5% difference DOWN
F) 10% 11% ............. = 10% difference UP
G) 0% 2% ............. = 200% (or should that be 2,000%) difference UP
H) 10% 6% ............ = 40% differnce DOWN

As can be seen, the two polls gave a somewhat different result with major divergences in choices B), C), D), G), & H). If one views a 10% swing as significant, then F) also joins the above groups.

Now all we have to do is establish what the way of voting difference was for the same individual or group of voters!!. Then we can make THAT figure as a percentage of the total number of DR1 members & we can see that most here just do not care to vote or get involved on this or any other poll!! ~ Grahame

After reading Nals weird calculations and trying to interpret the logic of his mind, I also wonder about the soundness of my decision to participate for the first time in one of these polls.

I will never make that same mistake again.

Like Grahame, I see a great difference in the 2 polls, but some people will bend and twist anything and everything to prove their point and avoid admitting otherwise.

What else would one expect from those that use the phrase
"Read Between The Lines" to change the meaning of actual words / results.

For example:
Quote:
Due to differences in the way the percentages were calculated by DR1's software....
30 people voted - 15 (50%) chose Sense of adventure as one of the reasons to come to DR.
30 people voted - 15 (50%) chose In search of a simpler life as one of the reasons to come to DR.
30 people voted - 17 (56.67%) chose The Country as one of the reasons to come to DR.

Ask yourself this Nals: Are the above 3 statements correct?

Then ask yourself: Did the first poll say the same thing?

Yes it is very clear, you had WAYYYYYY too many Presidente's Nals!

Your logic defies logic!
Later Nals, I 'm going to go have an intelligent chat with a wall!

With the use of Nal's logic. that translates to:

In 1996, using DR1 Deja Vu logic, I visited with the family of my future former spouse, not knowing I was living the future similar feelings of a time and place in 2007.

It must have been deja vu, very similar to the experience I would later have in 2007 !

Déjà vu, French for an uncanny feeling or illusion of having already seen or experienced something.

That's typical whenever people are given the choice of voting, ironically most choose not to vote.

For a plethora of examples, look at voting participation rates in democracies where people have the option of voting, as oppose to democracies where people are obligated to vote. And those are the votes that truly count and yet, people choose to not participate.

Why should it be any different on DR1?

this poll confuses me.

what FIRST brought me to DR or why do i keep going back.

First trip...just wanted a beach vacation to get away from NYC and my job.

NOW...i still want the beach..but i go to see the friends that i have made over the years...and hopefully explore more of the cultural things that i missed on my first few visits.

*sigh* i have danced bachata in the brarios at the patios....but i would love to dance on the malecon in a huge crowd with the moon over head, and i want to go to winter league beisbol.

so i guess my answer would be all of the above. was that an option?
