...or "foreign resident and drives but hates every moment and avoids it as much as possible".

I took on SD and more or less mastered it. In the best part of a decade I only had one very minor accident. OTOH inter-urban driving scares me sh!tless so I really try and avoid it as much as possible.

i asked NALs to run this poll and another one regarding driving at the time pig was discussing whether first time tourists should drive. thought it went hand in hand at the time... now, just of general (limited?) interest i guess.

Angry four accidents in four years

They just damn well run into you. I just drive away. Sometimes they have come to my window making the $ sign with their fingers. I roll down the black tinted windows two inches and tell them to go to the police and then I drive off. Never paid a dime so far and never killed anyone. You gonna drive here you gonna wreck. Its just the way it is.

Driving here is like doing Extreme Sports.
Your adrenaline rises way before you buckle up, your stress level goes off the charts, your cardiologist has strange dreams,
You end up doing & seeing things that you will never see or do again.

You never ever know if you will come out of it unscathed...
If your into that kinda thing it's great !!..
Personally I try and avoid it at all costs, But I drive here nun the less...

Santo Domingo to me is safest than many towns.
In last 10 years has just 2 minors accidents. both with carros publicos.
lot of stress, YES., but safer. it´s better to deal with cars, than with crazy montoconchos and pazzolas in towns like puerto plata or san pedro de macoris. just to mention 2.
