Default Looking to rent large house or apartment long term:

My lease here in Puerto Plata will be up by the end of February or optionally the end of August 2008. The current landlord wishes to sell and I am also outgrowing this home, so we bilaterally decided not to extend this lease beyond the dates set above.

So, I am already shopping around for a long term lease (1 to 2 year minimum) from either March 1st or September 1st, 2008.
  • I need room (min. 4 to 5 bed rooms / 3 bath or larger).
  • I need safety (secure doors and windows, preferably with bars) in a reasonably safe neighborhood (I don't have an issue with local neighbors however).
  • Reliable electricity and water as well the guaranteed possibility of private phone land line and internet (which I will contract to my name.)
  • Location: Preferably Puerto Plata city or East side. Alternatively I will also entertain the possibility of moving to some of the sea side developments in between Sosua and Cabarete (but NOT Sosua in town). I currently live nearby the Estern third Malecon of Puerto Plata, location which I enjoy very much because, all whilst I enjoy living amongst Dominicans, I am in a safe environment and can get my daily jogging exercises on along the Malecon and enjoy the beach. I will prefer a location which allows me to pursue a similar lifestyle.
  • Property may be furnished or not.
I am Swiss, 42 years old, a professional in urban development and construction. I speak fluently Spanish, English, German and French. I am no stranger to the Latin American culture(s) as I lived and worked in Ecuador, Southern Florida and Spain before moving here. I can keep a home up properly and do many repairs as needed during the term of the lease myself and/or oversee repairs and maintenance work done by contractors (if that is the wish of the landlord).
I have an impeccable and documented payment record with my current landlord and also all the services like water, electricity, phone, cable and so forth. I am also known by some "Senior"-dr1's in the region.

Please keep in mind that while I am financially secure, I LIVE here and generate my income HERE. I am NOT a tourist and will not entertain offers based on fantasy and/or tourist rates.

OUR property is not for rent (& even if it were, it is not quite big enough for your requirements) so I am not breaking any Forum rules by saying "If I hear of anything I will be in immediate touch with you. Boca a boca, face to face & friend to friend"!!

Don't move TOO far away as I don't want to be in a position of missing your sarcastic (almost British) humour!! ~ Grahame.

I really do not seek to move away, especially not from you alls. God forbids, I'd have to seek somebody new to bug.

But I am glad to see somebody posted something on this thread...

Thanks! ... J-D.

Oh well in that case............

I think an owner would be very fortunate in having you for a tenant, JD. I mean, you're not exactly a 'party animal' & if you do have any strange habits, you've successfully managed to keep them hidden from us

This'll probably doom your chances of being offered a house but I would say that you're a nice guy, independent, respectable, extremely responsible, & intelligent. (At least that should stop the 'herberts' being your next landlord ).

You certainly sound like the perfect tenant! - I wish I did have something to rent, you would definitely be my first choice.

Hope you find something.

J-D.;

Without being too personal. It might help to give us a little info about your family. Need to be near school(s) and recreation? Family pets? Live in domestic help? Budget?

Respectfully, Ringo

I will gladly try to answer your questions here, Ringo.

I currently live in Puerto Plata in between Luis Ginebra and the Malecon. I absolutely love that location since it is in the town I wanted to live in, close to the Malecon I love and surrounded by locals but without any bad life. If I could just move next door, I would be enchanted.

I currently live alone, have a (1) steady girl friend who studies at a University in a other city.
My cousin will join me here later this year. He is also my business partner and is currently taking care of our closing business interests in Spain.

Our cleaning lady lives with her family in Puerto Plata and comes 3 to 5 times a week for half a day to clean and wash.

I need a room for storage since I am bringing my stuff over soon. These are besides personal goods mostly technical equipment for measuring and so forth... they need to be at hand, safe and dry.
We furthermore need one room for home office. Phone with ADSL access and steady electricity (with the help of an inversor) are a must.
School is not an issue. Safety however is.
No pets.
Property may be furnished or not.

The rest about my person can be found in my opening post.

I do not disclose my budget, especially not on a public forum. However I can let it to be known that I have a pretty good idea of the prices and values around here and can tell tourist prices apart from local prices and also know to factor in the quality difference most foreigner demand or expect and the value or cost this may add to typical "local" rentals. I can however tell you that I am paying just over USD 700.oo a month for the furnished 3/3 home I am currently renting.

Thanks! ... J-D.

Still looking!
Especially interested in the following locations in Puerto Plata:
  • Urb. Costa Atlántica,
  • Urb. Jardines del Atlántico,
  • Urb. Arozeno Urtado,
  • Ens. Luperon,
  • Urb. Del Mar,
  • Urb. Bayardo,
  • Urb. Juan Brugal,
  • along Av. Luis Ginebra.
  • along the Malecón of Puerto Plata.
I'd be interested for a rental starting mid August 2008. One or two year minimum contract.
At least 4 Br/3 Bath (see first post).

... J-D.
