Default Nagua beachfront land a bad idea?

I'm considering purchasing a small beachfront property in Nagua.
I understand that Nagua is BELOW sea level. I also know that some years ago Matanza was destoyed nearby!
Does anyone know or have an opinion if this means that beachfront land in Nagua is always in danger of being destroyed by storms? Thanks for your reply!

In Nagua, more than in other places, location is very important.
There are 'beach' lots where I would not want to bury my dog...
(All depends what you want to do with the land.)
But well, I guess you don't want to build a cemetary, do you?

East of Nagua the sea can be quite rough and one would live in a spray of salt water... See the Italian hotel there.

BTW, have you not bought the lot near Baní?

You might want to read this report & look at the map for the areas coloured in red:
LD- Lecturas de Domingo - Alerta climática

In English here but without the map:

Depends where in Nagua you were thinking of. The sea has already crept into river mouths in some parts of Nagua and there have been calls for sea wall protection for some time. However, if you're thinking of developing an underwater hotel like the Hydropolis in Dubai then it might be quite a good spot. Good to get in early before the feeding frenzy starts...........

THAT MAP SHOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE SEA LEVEL RISES SIX METERS!!!!

Talk about the sky is falling craze!!!

who in their right mind is worrying about the sea lever rising almost 20 feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dammmmmmm

lets be realistic SLIGHTLY please

if the sea level rises 20 feet there will be a 50 million displaced japs alone

ha ha ha

as with any beach front property you cant stand on the site and see how high you are above sea level !!!!! if that is where your house will be. that is all that matters, not how high the town is down the road!!!

everyplace with in a cerain height of the beach or sea level will be suspect to dangers from hurricanes and drastic low pressure systems along with corresponding high tides.

beach front property 20 feet above the beach itself is better than beach front property that is only ten feet about the beach!! and they can be only 1/2 mile apart!!!!!heck they can only be 300 yards apart!!!

good luck

PS I dont see how it is possible there can be any CURRENT beach BELOW SEA LEVEL!!!!!!!!! unlees you buy when the tide is out!! ha ha ha

bob

You are indeed correct about the sky falling, although most of us call it 'rain'.

If the OP wants to find out exactly how much the sea is predicted to rise in Nagua they can use Arizona University Dept. of Geosciences maps:
DGESL : Research : Climate Change and Sea Level : Sea Level Rise

There are some parts where even a rise of 6 centimetres wouldn't exactly be good news for Nagua, particularly those parts where sea encroachment has already begun.

So based on this research if the Sea Level Rise will happen DR does not look that bad and alarming like most other Caribbean islands , The Bahamas ( will lose 90% of its coast ) or US Atlantic Coast , Florida for example according the map will have 40% less of its coast ...." + theTitle + "
