Come and see the areas mentioned and compare and contrast.

Janin's info about the private clinic in LT means that Samaná could stlll be in the running - and if it fulfilled my criteria it would be my perfect spot for its natural beauty alone. The Puerto Plata/Sosua/Cabarete area is probably closest to fulfilling your criteria, and you may well like what Punta Cana has to offer too.

Casa De Campo and Sea Horse Ranch are the two communities that best fit your descriptions, but not likely to cost $1,500 US/month.
Either you have to pay more or sacrifice some of the criteria.

With responses like this coming from a newbie I find it hard to believe that anyone would help you. Lighten up.

Seemed a bit rude to me too.
DB was just trying to help.
Seems fairly common these days that newbies come on asking questions, and if they don't like the answers, or they don't come quick enough, they get rude.
If I have to put up with this shyte, I'm asking for a raise.

I would second the idea that you deserve a "raise" Rocky. I was unaware that the perfect existence was available here in DR or anywhere else for that matter .... is that not the reason that some leave their native countries to come and live here as this is probably the closest you are gonna get to perfect.... agree anyone?

Juan Dolio. Good private clinics ( no ambulances though). Nice beaches. Close to the capital if and when you need it. Kids all over the place. Houses - yes for 1500 us$ a month. Downside - no mountains, lots of dust at the moment due to construction, not a lot of night life, few shops as all closed due to no tourists, not paradise - but they say will be one day.

I don't think Puerto Plata or Sosua would really meet the OP's criteria, do you? Too..........laid back, I suspect.

To those of you who consider my reply to DOM rude, I was being sarkastic. Am I the only one who thinks posting a link to the real estate section could perhaps be construed as somewhat less than helpful when it's the very place I'm posting? I mean, it's kind of hard to navigate to the real estate section without noticing it's there.

Enough of that. A hearty thanks to those of you who took my post seriously. I'm actually glad to hear Samana is not out of the question - it looks beautiful. I will visit the places mentioned this coming summer and as Chi said, compare and contrast. Btw, Casa De Campo and Sea Horse Ranch - they certainly meet our criteria. What would be the best approach for negotiating a good price in places like that? And what would the monthly rent most likely end up being?

Again, I thank you for your help.

There are so many variables.
It's a bit like asking, "how long is a piece of string?"
There are houses in SHR that are worth a couple of million bux.
Clearly, they will not be renting them out for $1,500 US/month.
You could shop a bit online, I expect, but going to see for yourself is the only real way to do it.

Rude maybe, but he had a point, IMO.
