Good question. First of all, the decision isn't final. Having said that DR is one of the places we are seriously considering. The weather and scenery is hard to find elsewhere. It really is incredibly diverse and beautiful. We live in Denmark and if you ever decided to spend a winter here you would most like understand our attention to the weather.
I could go on and on about the things we like and don't like about both Denmark and the DR, but what it really boils down to is how we want to spend our time. We both have well paid jobs and our living standards are high, but we don't really care about being very efficient, nurturing a carreer, showing of our cool new car our house, etc. We want a more laid-back lifestyle focussing on spending time together as a family, meeting new people, and working from home on the Internet.
Thailand is another option, but one step at a time.
