I would be interested in renting out a place to stay on my visit, even if it is only for a day! well worth the trip and experience! - J
PM me when you're ready to go, Barahona has some of the most awesome views in the whole country, photographer's paradise.

300 K dominican was possible to make a small 2BR house 2 years ago. When quintal of varilla was at 1000 pesos, block 16" at 14 pesos and funda de cemento at 100 pesos, and you bought ceramics at 300 pesos per sq meter.

Now, I would say at least 400 K.

Default Maybe...

someone could make a business out of building 300-400k peso homes in the campos and selling them to all these Gringos heading to the DR to live on less than US$1000/month? Two birds, etc.

And don't even think to have a house with concrete roof for under 500K. A friend of mine was doing some electricity work for a client and I went to see him on the job the house was neither big nor small, aprobably 3 BR, and the concrete roof "plato" went for about 100.000 pesos without workers' compensation "mano de obra". ... oh and that was about 2 montsh ago before varilla went up 30% a week ago.
