Default Furnishing packages....

For those of you who have bought condos or vilas with optional furnishing packages....Do you think it was worth it ? Would it have been better to do it yourself....

I recently purchased a 2 bed/2bath, 100 sq m condo....The package is 13 500$, with all appliances, ceiling fans, ac, furniture, bedding, plates, almost everything....

Any advice ???

We did it ourselves. It wasn't easy but we saved a lot of money. If you don't live here, your pretty much stuck. You have to know where to go to get things. If you don't, you don't really have a choice.

If you are on a budget or plan to use your place as a rental,I would estimate you could do the whole thing for much less than the package quoted.

It also depends (obviously) on the quality of the furnishings, appliances, electronics, etc. If the developer is decent, they should have negotiated a "cost plus" deal on the furnishings, etc. and *may* pass some of that savings on to you. Unless your condo is in Santiago or Santo Domingo, furnishing a new home here yourself can be quite..."challenging"...

I agree with David. It's all based on the quality. I know one person who spent $30,000 and another $12,000 to furnish similar two BR condo's. Having said that $13,500 wouldn't be a bad price from a builder for a 2 BR unit. The only complex I personally knew who gave a furniture option wanted $20,000.

When we purchased we had the option also but we wanted confortable furniture not the wicker, so we had ours made. If you are not on site, you can deal with a decorator, if you are on the North Coast I can give you the name of a great decorator, she is Canadian and works out of Santiago, she will handle everything. It is not less expensive but you can work on a budget with her and you will get exactly what you want.

I'd like her name as well. I own a condo in Bayardo and have been slowly furnishing it because I can't find what I want.

Thanks for all the replies....I was actually considering taking everything electric....meaning appliances, ceiling fans and air conditioners and then having all the furniture made. I live in Punta Cana, so I found a great place in Veron, they can do ANYTHING that you want....for 2 bedroom sets, living room set and dining room they quoted me 120 000 pesos...which is not back.....

We have a condo in Punta Cana that we rent out . We took the package at a very good price . Time and convenience was a factor for us. They installed all the ceiling fans, put everything away, took away all the garbage. When they were done it was ready to move in.
Our next place is for us to live in, I will do all the shopping myself because I will have the time . It will be kind of like an adventure I figure by the time I finish furnishing I should know where alot of stores/shopping is
