Default Travel Buddies 17th to 31st October

Hi all,

Going to be in the DR from the 17th to 31st October. 1 week santo domingo (free in afternoons and evenings). I fancy seeing some baseball etc.

I'm driving from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata on the 24th and would be up for some travelling companions if anyone knows the right forum to place this in that would be great.

I've driven all over the world and am looking forward to the challenge of the DR.

Cheers

Dawn

Be carefull driving in DR. you may dont need it, there is a very good and cheap transportation, from Santo domingo to any town on the north (Santiago, Moca, Jarabacoa, Puerto Plata, Sosua, etc)
if you have a partner it´s ok, but dont drive alone.
Santo domingo has a lot of places to dance. if you speak some spanish you wont have any problem.
Next week baseball season starts. Go Licey
The best places to meet real dominican girls pretty and friendly are Moca, Jarabacoa y Santiago. Santo domingo are pretty too, but not as friendly.
Puerto plata are ok. Sosua(dont waste your time, just whores) , but during daytime, it worth a visit to one of the most beautiful beach and a great town.
Cabarete is very lively at night, and a place to meet a crazy gringuita.
have fun

Default More on travel partners

Thank for the reply but soy una mujer. I am conversant in spanish.

I think you misunderstood. I am not looking for girls for "company" I am looking for travelling partners.

I've been told by the company that I am visting that travelling alone in a car during the day is fine but I would rather travel with another person for company.

Santo domingo is great, as well, las otras ciudades que te mencione.

Dawn

I have lived here for 7 years. Feel free to contact me for any help you need while here (Santo Domingo). Post me your email . It is true, Dominican Republic has its own set of rules for driving and outside the capital is where you will see the really scaryyyyy driving !! If you want I can help get you a driver which will not cost you much and he is very reliable, sociable and safe. Good luck

Thanks both for your help.

I'm staying in Santo Domingo for the first week. The second I was planning on travelling to the North Coast and staying in an eco tourism lodge. It looks really cool.

Thank you so much for the offer but I don't think I would like a driver. That feels much to posh for me! I'd prefer another pair of eyes and a passenger but it seems difficult to find.

To be honest I'm looking forward to the adventure of driving. I'll be insured up to the eyeballs and bring God with me on the roads *laugh*. I would surmise it may be a new experience similar to Egypt where they drive at night without lights and pray to Allah that they will see the cow, sheep, child, motorcycle etc in the road before they hit it. Or india where the biggest vehicle always wins and they turn in front of you at a junction when you are driving. Or my personal favourite italy where they pass on both sides at 90 on a blind bend while talking on a mobile phone, swearing at you with both hands and eating at the same time.

Gracias!

Dawn

Dawn, from your recounting of previous driving experience in different countries you listed - be forewarned! Driving-wise, the DR is India, Egypt and Italy combined together.
