what now...
Thanks to everyone for their replies, comments etc. I know you probably all mean the best and it looks as if my relationship may very well be over...and I feel terrible it's sooo hard to hear and realize and accept. And for all of you who laugh and think women or men who fall for these people are stupid or foolish, that may be so, although I never considered myself "one of those people", but I guess I am. I really thought I had something special and that he really cared for me and I for him...I was really happy.
Silly me already has my trip with him booked for Dec. which I cannot get out of...no refunds.

Sometimes travel agencies will let you have credit and you can book another holiday elsewhere. If you can pull this off, you could try stringing him along and then just not turn up.
Otherwise - Rocky's advice is good. After visiting the AI, take off to another part of the country and enjoy the rest of your holiday without him.

Not a Fool
You're not a fool, these guys are professional. Literally, this is what they get paid to do. My friend who is studying Hotel Management in the DR once told me resorts purposefully hire guys/gals like this and it is just known that they will do this because that means the tourists will keep coming back to the same resort to see their "special someone".
Yes it is hard to accept, but you have a vacation booked in the DR - what is wrong with that? I wish I was heading to the DR in Dec when the snow flies (unless you're in Edmonton and then it already has).
Go and have fun and get over him.

No to worry, get yourself a replacement - lots of inventory on Lavalife online - then show up with your new beau and tell him "his johnson" doesn't measure up, LOL!!!

If you go through with this and spend the time with him alone, he will reel you in even deeper, feed you more bulls***, and if you are strong enough to tell him the wedding is off, he will pull that how can you think I'm a sankie with that sad, hurt look in his eyes......... or he may ger angry and do something worse. Are you going alone?
