Looking for a room in Santo Domingo

I am looking for a simple room in the hearth of Santo Domingo for a period of three or four weeks in the month of november or december. As long as it is clean I don't want a luxurious room and I am not here to look at tv.
I travel single.
If you can help me with informations, I would appreciate.

By room, do you mean hotel or something else. There are a number of hotels that meet your specifications for less than US$20/day.

For sth like this I've been looking for years and never found one, besides the sleazy dives around the Duarte.

If there are decent places for this price, please I want to know them too.

gerd, see the link I posted above. In Santo Domingo, I stay at La Grand Mansion. Private bath, no tv of A/C, RD$350/night for one person, RD$400 for two. There are several other hotels on same street, Danae, which are also good value.
