Does anyone know where the New Courtyard Marriott in @ 50A Maximo Gomez Avenue SANTO DOMINGO - Downtown is and where it is located? and Is it close to the Malecon and Conde Calle and other attractions and can you have guests there while on vacation? The hotel is fairly new and was built in 2003. Thanks for all your help... and if need be feeel free to PM me... Thanks!

Hey, 'morning Dennis. I would do a google search for it. Or try Marriot's website. They've gotta provide a map or something... So that's where you're gonna stay, huh? Courtyard's are cool in the States, so I hope its a good look for you there.

With Marriott in the name, it's gotta be "no-guests" I'm sure. But, hey, just call down and ask them to be certain. How did you find out about it?

Just like you said it is Maximo Gomez avenue. Around where ex-president Balaguer's house is. It is brand new. I stayed there in December and they had just opened. It is a pretty nice Courtyard, compared to others I've stayed in. They even have free high speed internet access, which was a big bonus for me. They are pretty close to the Malecon, but not walking distance (a few miles I would say). Their breakfast was included for one person, but if you have more than one party you have to pay for the others and it was very expensive I thought, c onsidering what they offered. It was funny when we were there, my son ordered waffles and the guy that was trying to make them, had to try three times to get them right. Going to El Conde and other areas should not be to difficult either. Just get a taxi.
As to guests (I assume you mean the female kind) I would really doubt that they would allow them in your room without paying for a room for them. As you probably know the Courtyard is a business oriented hotel and I don't think they would want to start out with a bad reputation. Overall I was pretty satisfied with this hotel. BTW the hotel looks nothing like the picture they have at the Marriott website (unless they just re-painted it). Hope this helps.

It is across the street from ex president Balaguer's house and within one block of the US consulate and Teatro Nacional. It is a safe area.

The Malecon is a 15 minute walk or 2-3 minutes in a public car. El Conde is about a 25-30 minute walk or about 10 minutes in a public car.

I don't know what their guest policy is but I suppose that you could call or e-mail them and ask.

Default Courtyard Marriott/Santo Domingo

Marriott is not guest friendly. It is at least a 25-30 minute brisk walk (as it is about 10 minutes by car) to the Malecon. I already called them and "for our safety and for the safety of other guests at the Courtyard no guests are allowed in the room". They told me that they have guards who walk around the place and check when they see people coming into the hotel.

Default Any hope?

Dayum. thanks for the info, I have met many people who live in Santo Domingo who are professional folks in the city, online for my upcoming trip to the DR and I would like for them to visit me while I'm there. It's not like I will be bringing hookers into the place! Do you think they will make a exception for obviously non-hookers and professional/business folks? Let me know if this hotel will be no help .

Thumbs up It IS within walking distance of the "Malecon"!

About 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your speed! 3 minutes by car would be more like it.Except when there is a trafic jam! There are universities nearby, and it IS a busy street.I think you would like it!Cris Colon
