I forgot to mention something about the Delta Hotel.

In their website, it mentions that if you book online, then you will get a 15% discount. But their online reservation does not work.

So it is best to call them and make a reservation. They will give you the 15% discount.

This hotel also has an internet room (three computers) for free and this room is open 24/7.

But this hotel is a bit far away from the Malecon. Its about a 10-minute drive from the Jaragua Casino.

The Napolitano Hotel is a nice hotel with a nice view of the ocean. But the second floor of this hotel is an outdoor restaurant and pool. Live music will be played until around 12:30am. So if you are a person who sleeps early, then this might not be the hotel for you.

This hotel sounds nice. My concern is location. I will not have a car. Two places I would like to be able to walk to are the Malecon and Zona Colonial. Are they within easy walking distance?

The noise would not bother me. So far I can't find a webpage. The webpage is a big decision maker for me. The above two and Hotel Palacio seem to be what I have narrowed it down to.

I also like Hotel Atarazana but can't get much info as webpage is under construction.

Hotel Delta is not walking distance from the Malecon and Zona Colonial. It is about a 40 to 50-minute walk.

But the Napolitano Hotel is about a 10-minute walk to the Zona Colonial. All rooms at the Napolitano have an ocean view.

I cannot find the official website for both hotels either. So I guess you can browse through google.

Good luck and have a great time.

Napolitano was a good hotel for the price and is well located...they have recently changed management and apparently their business policies..they have begun cutting corners and skimping on service and quality as well as trying to add in hidden charges whenever they can. This is the place that I would always recommend to folks visiting me but now I don't ..at least until they sort out their policies, so as not to try to cheat their guests at every opportunity and return to providing reasonable quality in their food and services.

This place was never top shelf but was a good value for the price, i can't say that anymore..Additionally, anyone who does choose to stay there should check every bill very carefully and leave enough time at checkout to address and discrepencies.

Wow, thanks for the info. That is too much walking for me!

This sounds better. I also could not find a website. What about Hotel Palacio? What is your opinion?

Two thumbs up for Hotel Palacio! I have stayed there many times in the past. Reasonable prices, German owner so everything works, nice staff, historical building, and only 1/2 block to El Conde. http:dominican-rep.com/Hotel-Palacio.html

Another good hotel is the Hotel Conde de Peñalba at the Cathedral's end of El Conde. www.condepenalba.com

P.S. All of the hotels on the Malecon have an agreement with the tourism group saying no dominican 'guests', either for a short time or overnight. That includes the InterContinental, the Melia, the Jaragua, Hotel Santo Domingo, the Hilton, and supposedly the Napolitano.

Default Thanks to ALL

First I would like to thank everyone for their input. I think I have it narrowed down to three choices.

1 - Hotel Palacio
2 - Hotel Mercure
3 - Napolitano Hotel (soon to be removed from the list if I can't find a website)

Based on Ruffino1974's post (#24), I would remove Napolitano from your list.

It's a shame, it used to be one of the more reasonably priced hotels on the Malecon.

if you are a newbie...mercure is right in the middle of the zona colonial....a friend of mine stayed there about a year ago...seems like a decent place and definitely walking distance to where you want to be.

I believe they are guest friendly...but you will have to pay about 5 USD to let anyone into your room...doesnt matter if it is another tourist or a local
