Santo Domingo job for American?
I'm a first time user of this forum but I have a lot of questions. I currently live in Santo Domingo and was a volunteer English professor for the Universidad Automona de Santo Domingo but the projects I did for them kind of died because of lack of support.
I'm still in Santo Domingo living and I'm looking for a job. I have a University degree from the United States in Business but I really don't know where to start looking. I'm looking for something basic but I don't know what I have to do in order to get around the bureaucracy here.... (As far as not being a resident or citizen of the DR).
I really don't have any contacts either because my friends here have jobs in the medical field where I don't have any training.
I'm kind of a “loner” here as well as pretty lonely at the moment although I've been to the DR before and I loved it. Last time I came here it didn’t seem to hard to find friends but although there are wonderful people here, it’s hard to meet people by yourself. I want to continue to live here but at the same time, I need to find a job in order to help cover my living expenses and also to meet people (friends). It's kind of weird because I could find a very high-paying job in the United States but here I kind of feel that my skills and education are easy to go unnoticed. Besides a lot work experience in many fields, I'm also bilingual in Spanish but I just wish I had some contacts or people I could speak to whom could help me find a job. If it be in Santo Domingo or Santiago I would love to know if anyone knows of anything or anybody whom I could talk to whom might be to get me a job.........I would really appreciate it as I feel very desperate and with no one else to talk to or ask. A lot of people tell me that I can get a great job here but as always, the only way to get someone interested in you is through a contact or someone that can "get you through the door."
I would love to hear your advice or anyone I should see or talk to in order to get me started.
Any Ideas?
Thank you
