I am thinking of spending 4 days in the Dominican Republic in mid April. I have a few questions I would like to ask. I am a 35 year old gringo travelling alone and am primarily wondering if the night life in Santo Domingo is really good. As I am travelling alone I am also curious if it is safe to go in an out of bars and walk around at night by myself.
Where are the best districts to go out and party in?
I am also interested in taking some day trips around the area, most likely I will be renting a car. Once again I am not sure if it is safe for a gringo to be travelling alone on the roads and through the towns (mainly during daylight).
What areas would you recommend seeing the most within easy access to Santo Domingo?
It's safe, so long as you are smart about it. Be aware of your surroundings, keep distance between yourself and dark corners. Dont be show-offy, etc. The ususal rules.

I go to DR all the time and especially SD. I love it. If you look like a target, then you are going to be one. Don't worry, just to the smart things. When in April are you going? - I will be there 16 - 29 April perhaps I could show you around.
