Default Newcomer Seeks 1 br Apt in Santo Domingo (Gazcue)

Hi all,

I'm a 22 y.o. male moving to work in Santo Domingo in two weeks. I'll hopefully be there for about a year, so I would like to find a nice, furnished, one-bedroom apartment in a central and safe neighborhood that's not too far from the fun areas in SD (Gazcue??). I'm looking to spend at most $450 a month.

Any tips for where I can start looking? Any advice on other neighborhoods?

Thanks,

H

Hi, I read the story you sent and some of the replies. Someone mentioned that it's good to post before you go there. Where would I post that I'm looking for an apartment?

Is it reasonable to expect a nice one-bedroom in Gazcue for RD$10-15K?

I rent a 3 bedroom place in gazcue for 20,000 pesos. While looking for apartments we found a few before settling on this one. There was one playe that was 2 bedroom in a decent building for 10,500 and another that was 2 bedroom right across from Centu on the corner of delgado and santiago and they wanted 15,000 pesos.

Call a taxi and have them drive up and down the streets looking for signs. That is how I found my place. There was also a 1 bedroom just off independencia for $550 dollars but I never looked at it.

My third bedroom is very small and I use that for an office. The living room is decent sized and the dining area is pretty big. We have a balcony and intercom system and are on the same power grid as the national palace. . .so the lights are on most of the time.

I need a place for 2 months. Would anyone be willing to rent for such a short time, or should I just to straight for the apart-hotels?
