Default Best Mexican Food In Santo Domingo ?

Hi

Anyone have any recomendations?

I tried a place last night that was pretty good. It's on the corner of the Malecon and Sanchez.

It's one of only two restuarants on the ocean side of the Malecon (the other is way down near the hilton) and it's not a mexican restaurant as such.

Seems to specialise more in grilled meats, ribs etc but they had a few mexican dishes and I tried the beef and chicken burittos. Not bad at all. Recommended.

Maybe because it's in the neighborhood, but am regular at a romantic hole-in-the-wall bar, by the name of Rancho Villa, on Ave Nuñez de Cáceres, between Sarasota and Ave. Rómulo Betancourt. The Mexican dishes are passable, and the margaritas are excellent...

hmmm...any more recommendations? i will be in S.D. next saturday...and even tho the RD is not mexico (jejeje)...i am looking for some really good (yet affordable food). Do dominicans know how to cook mexican? My domincan friend here always yells at me for my mexican way of seasoning my food.

"thats the problem with you mexicans...you put too much jalapeno in your food and that makes your blood hot and that is why you can not keep your women!!!" lol Thats a real quote.

Will anyone from DR1 like to meet for an early dinner that weekend? first weekend in march (saturday). I already have plans to meet up with a few other DR1'rs ....the more the merrier!!!

For some reason i cant post a new thread....i will try at work as jrzyguy2

Mexican as in food from Mexico - no.
What the rest of the world knows as Mexican food - Rey Tacos on Sarasota con Churchill is reasonable enough.
I want to try the place Mirador mentioned, I also live nearby and know it by sight.
Signed, a purist and margarita lover.

Default Spicy's

Having never been to Mexico, I have no idea how "authentic" it is, but we had a very enjoyable meal at Spicys on Av. Churchill esquina Roberto Pastoriza.

Taco Bell (several locations in Santo Domingo) on Tuesday nights. 2 for the price of one (which just about equals the regular price anywhere else ! )Same tasteless food as delivered in Miami, but with a slightly different grade of beef. Ya gotta love it!

Default Santiago

I don't know about the capital but if you're in Santiago there is a restaurant right around the corner from HB's and they have great fajitas and chimichangas. I won't hesitate to say that they are real authentic and on par if not better that the authentic Mexican restaurants we used to eat at in Orlando. I talked with the chef and it appears that he was trained by someone who used to work at an Mexican restaurant in the States.

FYI, I don't consider authentic Mexican restaurants back in the states authentic if they have gringos working there - even waiting tables - and certainly no chains like Don Pablos!
