Default Chic, modern hotel, in the heart of the action

My friend and i will be in Punta Cana for 2 months and will be visiting the Capital. We would like to stay at a really nice hotel/villa/condo, for a reasonable rate(not more than 150$ USD night...and that's already really high for us). Preferably "downtown" SD, within walking distance to clubs and restos.

Thanks

Punta Cana is the only area that I really know...just wanted a quiet place to relax while on a small sabbtical from work....Planning on visiting several places...why ? Is there somewhere better I could have chosen ? Like POP or Cabarete?

Punta Cana is great for tourists that come down for a few days' vacations, but other than the resorts there's not a whole lot to do around there. It's not a real town per se, but a conglomeration of resorts and it's far from everything else in the country.

If you want to do some things in addition to just relax then I think Puerto Plata/Cabarete area would have been a better choice...and if you really wanted to get away from everything then I think Samana or Barahona would also be better choices. Just my opinion...

i totally agree. in 60 days you could have covered the whole country and used some other place as a base camp.

hopefully you can learn the transportation system to get around while you are here...

good luck

Default Thanks for the info....

I appreciate all the feedback...we only picked PC cause that's an area we really know...plus to be honest with you, if I spend 59 of the 60 days doing almost nothing...on the beach, I will be more than pleased. But this is in fact going to be the base...we are planning about 4-5 trips inccluding SD, POP, La Romana and Sosua...

There should be no discussion on better places to stay for 2 months, as she has already stated 2-3 times that Punta Cana is where she is going to stay, her mind is made up.

So her question is where to stay in Santo Domingo when she goes there for a side trip!

I can't give you much info as I haven't been to SD for many many years, but I have stayed at the Nicolas de Ovando, beautiful and historic hotel. You can get a room for as low as $151.00 US per night.(current rates-2007) It is situated in the colonial zone. I can't say for sure what is close by for discos etc. as my stay did not comprise of an active nightlife, but more of a history lesson.

I do not want to provide the link in case I get into trouble but it is very easy to google it.

Marlie
