Travel from Santo Domingo to Semana Peninsula

I will be in the DR from March 9th-18th and will be arriving in Santo Domingo. I am interested in traveling to Semana to go whale watching and am wondering what the best method of transportation is from Santo Domingo to Semana. I speak Spanish so communication is not an issue. I do not wish to fly due to the cost. How many days do I need to dedicate if I wish to go there and is there a bus transport that will take me there? If so, how long is the bus trip and in what part of Santo Domingo am I able to catch the bus? Thanks, any and all info is much appreciated.

there are a number of ways by bus to samana.you can get caribe tours from terminal on 27 de febrero,leave about every hour to samana,then other bus to las galleras and whale watching boats...you can also get guaguas from la parada on corner of caracas and enriquillo
..directly to las galleras at I think one is at 8 am...but call .. cost is 250 pesos

Do you know how long it takes to go from Santo Domingo to Semana by bus?

It takes about 4 1/2 hours if I remember correctly.

Anyone know how long it takes to go from Santo Domingo to Puerta Plata by bus?
