apartment for student in santo domingo

i have to get an apartment for my stepson while he studies english in santo domingo. is it common there for students to live together as it is here or do most of them just live at home? if he has to get a small apartment on his own, what would i be looking at for rent and would i have to pay more upfront then just 1st month's rent? no idea of the neighbourhood yet, but it will be an inexpensive, yet safe area.

Hmm, depending on what you are looking for there is lots out there. I think the usual for an apartment is first and last up front, perhaps even 3months up front. You can find a room in gazcue, perhaps at an apart hotel for U$300 and up per month, that includes electricty, air conditioning, hot water, and cable. I´m currently staying with a familly in El Million, a safe neighbourhood, and I´m paying about U$150, and they feed me. I can give you some contacts if you would like,you can send me a PM.
