Santo Domingo Country Club
I have seen this on the map but has anyone actually been there or is a member?
If so, what's it like? What are the facilities, prices etc ?

Yes me, it's a nice place.
You can use all the facilities if you are a member such as two big pools, minigolf, tennis etc. Also the restaurant and snack outlets are good.
Prices .... for food or playing golf?

I thought this club was so exclusive that if you had to ask you weren't a member and never would be one???? (although you might be lucky enough to be invited as a guest of one of the members!)

I understand it is about a million pesos to join (buyone share) today.
It is a very nice club and the golf course is top of the line.
The 2007 Hoerman Cup will be held there...in August.
It is exclusive.
The statutes are written in English.

Country Club
I went there in December with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. They are members. It was very nice. The facility is very well kept, the service was great and the food was really good. We toured the facilty which I found to be compariable to most country clubs here in the states. It liked it, though I am not too impressed by the stuffy Dominican lifestyle, thus would never become a member. But, I appreciated being a guest!!!
I have no idea how much it costs though...sorry.

Why are the statutes written in English? This I do not understand. With so many English-speaking, rich, drug trafficking, returning Dom Yorks or foreigners, I don't see this as a sign of exclusivity. I would call it a "picúo" (as Cubans say) feature. Do Dominican have to pass an English test in order to join?

In theory, anyone who can pay the quotas becomes a member. However, SDCC can be and is known for being very picky when it comes to who it grants membership and who it rejects.
Their website is sólo en español:
Santo Domingo Country Club

When in Santo Domingo, if you reach avenida Luperón at any intersection north of its Anacaona intersection, drive south (if coming from the west turn to your right or if coming from the east turn to your left to be on Luperón southbound).
On our right (after you pass the intersection with Anacaona on your left) you will see Prolongación Mirador Sur, turn onto such street.
Drive until you reach a T-intersection with Avenida Isabel Aguiar and turn left. On your right you will see the entrance to the country club.
