Cool SD.. Staying a month for work

I have just found out that I am going to be going to SD for a little over a month for work. This will be my first trip out of the US and am not sure what to expect. Anything you can tell me about what I can expect or fun things for me to do while in the capital would be great.

this could be the most amazing month of your life,,,,,or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you will absolutely hate it..........................read posts on "sankies" for starters..................forget jam bands,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,go to youtube.com and search tono rosario, if you don't dance to this guy then you don't dance and never will..............you probably can't see him when you are here but you will get a feeling for the music. the music is merengue. not to be confused with bachata (boring music), salsa (music for old cubans), reggaethon (rap music in spanish, boring), tango (cool in argentina).......do that homework above and get back to us................

it's kinda like trying to describe the grand canyon or niagara falls, words and pictures are useless..............if you have never left the states it will be like landing on the moon...........do you speak spanish? if not OK, but you should know please, thank you, where is, how much (never agree to first or second price unless in large department store, supermarket), did you ever see the movie Wizard of Oz?........SD sure ain't Kansas.........it's better.........

Lightbulb Hey

If you'll be staying at a resort they should have lot's of activities Scuba Diving, snorkeling, Jet ski's, Quad's or just laying at the beach. if you want to see the city my suggestion is "La Zona Colonial" (The Colonial Zone) nice sight seeing in the morning and a great place for Clubbing and Bars at night, will you be going alone? if you want to go shopping "El Conde" is an OK place to go walking and shopping and for some good food or for some souvenirs. but ask your concierge for a good mall if you want Great Quality clothes (MSRP is the usual price you'll find at the malls unless you run into a sale) Altos De Chavon is a BETTER place for shopping Club's and Bars and is about an hour away but well worth it, remember don't trust anyone! (I'm serious, I'm Dominican and I don't like being hustled, and if you have a friend hang out with them, be discreet and humble) and when you ask anyone where's a fun place to go your next question should be "es un lugar de clase?" (is that place classy?) or "es Tranquilo" pronounced TRAN-KILO (is it tranquil, non-ghetto) Take care and GOD Bless.

Are you going to be in Santo Domingo proper, or some place outside of town?

Look, SDQ (the airline designation for the place) is a huge city with 3 million+ of which there are a very large number of people just getting by and another fair number of people trying to get up the ladder. And a few that have it made in the shade.

There are umpteen places you can go to party. Priaia, Montecristo, etc etc, the "IN" spots change every month. For live music, you should know that raggaetón is very much "in" ...and bachata, a very popular melody and dance.

What most of the guys on this board are thinking, is "Here comes another victim of the Sanky-Panky" ....which is to say that some smooth talker is going to get you all hot and bothered, thinking you have found the love of your live while he kisses you good-bye and is looking for his next meal...

This is very typical of our female tourists..but not those that come here to work.

There are tons of things to do, from beaches, to parasailing/paragliding off of our mountains. As you establish contact with your employers here, be sure to ask what events are upcoming. These are in a newspaper supplement called BUREO, that "everybody" reads...

Good luck, you;ll have a ball.

HB

BTW: choicecash's post is right on.....read it twice..

I am going to be down there by myself. And from what I understand I will be satying downtown in the companys penthouse. I know a little bit of Spanish but the company said that they would provide me with a translator. But I do know the basic phases. I know that I will be in the office for a little while but paln to work some from where every I stay. I really would like to know things like: Do I need to exchange my money here or wait till I get there? What about my hair dryer? Do I need a converter for my pug in things? What type of bigger stores are there? Do I need to pack a bunch of everyday stuff to brign down, or is it cheaper to buy there? Just answers to everyday type things would be appreciated.

thanks
