The disco is called Guacara Taina (sp?) and I think the restaurant is called La Cava. If you use the search function, you should find some more info.

Restaurant is La Meson de la Cava and is a separate location from Guacara Taina which is just a disco.

They're both located on the Mirador Sur Avenue that is accessed from Ave. Churchill. (But it's not called Churchill south of Ave. 27 de Feb., it's called Enrique Jimenez Moya)
Ave. Mirador Sur goes from EJM all the way over to Ave. Luperon, but the entrance from the Luperon side is usually blocked off.
BTW, we went to Guacara Taina the other night. At 1 in the morning on a Saturday night, the three of us were the only people there, along with the 5 or 6 employees. It is not what you would call a popular place to hang out.
Strictly a tourist thing. AND, they charge 100 pesos to walk in the door, with a free drink.
Same thing with the restuarant. Neat to visit, overpriced, acceptable food. Another tourist attraction, nothing more.

Which is why they are both overpriced and EMPTY! I remember when you couldn't get in to Guacara Taina ANY night of the week.
However both are worth one visit just to see the fabulous "natural" beauty of the caves!

My six-year old is desperate to visit that restaurant. Is it the sort of place you can take children?

Chiri, go ahead, take Chirimoyito down the spiraling stairway down into El Mesón de la Cava any time. It's a sight! My own children love to visit. Take also Mr C, and have him take a picture of the statue of Caonabo in the circle at the beginning of the avenue (Avenida Mirador del Sur) a few yards away toward Ave. Winston Churchill. Have him notice that Caonabo has a big dent on his right (or is it left ;-) behind. It happened when hurricane David (circa 1979) toppled the bronze statue from its pedestal, blowing it clear across the street. I used to live in the neighborhood at the time...

Hi Chiri,

My two have eaten at that place so you should have a little family outing for sure. It is expensive so we only took the kids once but it is worth it just for the unique experience.

Hope you and the family are doing well. We are all fine but still missing the DR. Life is good here but very different. Take care.

If they can negotiate the spiral stairs, they will love it.

I like the place, very unique. I found the food and drink good, far above average but not 5-star, not cheap but not expensive. A bill for 4 including appetizers, drink, wine, entre's and desert runs us around 6000 pesos.

Are there better restaurants in SDQ? Yes. Are there more unique restaurants? I doubt it. A fine experience.

BTW-the pina coladas in the whole fresh coconut are awesome!
