Why don't you find a free wifi place and do your work there? See link below for wifi areas in the DR.

You know.. from one Dominican to another... you are sooo FOS!! LOL!! Que muela loco!! You've got it all figured out, don't you? I mean, down to the last detail.. the look, the mannerism, the attire, the flamboyance, you name it.. it's been thought out. I wonder, do you put any of those skills to positive use? May I suggest perhaps a gov't agency?

OK, since you are Dominican, I'll spell it out. I get histrionically inspired by these preposterous situations. I find it hilarious how a chintzy guy gets all worked up about something as puerile as connecting to a wi-fi, and more so, when other posters start speculating about the legality or morality of it all. Typical gringo!

How close are you? Maybe for a few hundred pesos a month you can get the wifi code and the manager will run an electric line too! When in Rome ...

The hotel most likely installed password protection because it was being hijacked by neighbors. The more users, the slower the speed.

I don't know what is the real speed you were getting. If at any time you can get at least 512 pay him 500 pesos. If you can get over 1 meg, pay him 1000 pesos. Negotiate the price down. Still a good deal, if you consider cowtel charges 1395 + 28% for 768 kbsp. Make it official, and get a receipt. If you are not a torrent/warez/limeware/etc guy, the hotel should not be worried too much about the traffic.

I stayed there in April, and found all the folks there to be really nice. I imagine they would listen to a deal...especially since the rooms are individually owned, and management just manages...
Besides- what's the worse that can happen - they say no?
