Maybe you can talk to the hotel's manager to give you the username and password for a monthly fee... ?

You may get away with a one time payoff.

May not be worth trying to negotiate a 'one time' pay off because, if they change the sign in details (or their manager!) at any time, you'll possibly end up having to pay more to re-instate it than if you just negotiate a small monthly fee on the basis that you get new info if it gets altered.

If I was you, I would befriend a wi-fi user nearby, and ask him/her for the code. Tell him/her that you are only testing your system, and that you plan to subscribe once you are convinced the thing works in your system. If you are not experienced in making such advances, I suggest you approach your subject holding a cup of expresso coffee. That will give you a non-challant, casual, non-threatening air, creating an atmosphere more conducive for a positive cooperation from your subject.

Actually, it doesn't have to be a cup of espresso coffee, it can be a cup of oolong tea, or even water. The trick is in the manner you carry it and keep sipping at it, to give you a casual and non-threatening air. Did you get the gist?

By the way, sorry about the misspelling.
