Default used stuff

Where are some good places around Santo Domingo to get used stove and fridge? I need the small apartment size ones.
Good directions please. I don't know my way around outside of the Zone that well yet.

That's going to be a toughie.

First of all, there used to be a thriving trade in the importation of Asian appliances(reefers, split A/C's, etc), but the local biggies got tired of people buying used stuff while their stuff sat on the shelves, so they got their political friends to pass a law that prohibits the importation of used appliances.

You can still find the occasional appliance at some pawn shops, but I don't know of any place that is dedicated to selling used appliances anymore.

Your best bet in the city will be to visit furniture stores and look for new Asian stuff.

The prices won't be as bad as you think, and you really are better off buying new anyway.

No one sells their used stuff here unless it's dying, and then they try to unload it on someone else. You'll only be buying a headache.

You don't have a lot of couples that say to each other "Honey, lets go out and get a nicer refridgerator today", which is pretty common in Gringolandia.

Default More expensive...yes, but

not prohibited....unless that law you refer to was passed in the last month or so.

My shipper informed me in July that taxes had risen on used appliances, especially refrigerators, because of the reason you have cited. However, I can attest to the fact that used appliances (stove, refrigerator) are still allowed in....at least they were in August.

And, had I known that a poster had need for a stove/refrigerator, I would have gladly given them away, gratis.

Respectfully,

I have a feeling you may be right. Not necessarily prohibited, but prohibitly expensive to import.

There used to be a lot of companies that imported used split A/C's and reefers by the trailerload from Japan and other countries, but the ones I'm familiar with no longer bring them in.

They used to be everywhere(Seen Tokyo Motors recently), but now they're tough to find..
