Question Need A Favor...

hi everyone.

as per my previous thread...

shipping from canada to santo domingo

i have shipped a 50lb box of clothing, shoes, soap, shampoo, school supplies etc...to villa bendicion in santo domingo. i have confirmed with the company i used to ship the box that my shipment has arrived in santo domingo and is awaiting pick up. i have tried to email my contact at the orphange both via her hotmail address and via the orphange's email but i keep receiving error messages or havent received a response.

i have contact phone numbers but unfortunately, i dont speak spanish and all of our correspondance about my parcel has been done via email (after translating everything from english to spanish and vice versa online )

i was just wondering if there is a DR1 member out there who would be willing to contact the orphange for me and advise them that the box has arrived in SD and needs to be picked up? unfortunately, i dont know anyone who speaks spanish well enough here in vancouver to do this on my behalf so if anyone is willing to make the call for me, i would be eternally grateful!

if anyone can help me out with this, please PM me and i will give you the contact info.

thanks!!

Did you find out what the customs fees were going to be? They will not be able to pick up the package without paying duty and customs fees, I'm afraid. Depending on the contents and how well inventoried they are and whatever the rate is that day, they need to know that there is likely to be a charge for them.

I can make the call for you. I'm in Puerto Plata but if you give me the number and whom to speak to, I can let them know the package is there. Hopefully, they are accustomed to receiving packages and know the drill because it is not that straight forward.

Send me the name and phone number and I'll make the call - although I would have thought the company that shipped the items would provide that service.

thanks donna and chiri!

as for the customs fees...im not sure. i just emailed the shipping company to see if there is a way for them to find out the fees (if any) and let me know because i would want to pick up the tab for that.

as for the inventory in the parcel...i itemized everything in a detailed letter to customs that i included with the box and made sure to note that the contents are all donations for an orphanage. hopefully that helped with the customs process.

also, my contact at the orphanage is the one who recommended that i use this particular shipping company so hopefully they are already well versed on the procedure!!

just wanted to say THANKS again to chiri for making the call to my contact at the orphanage and telling her that my parcel was ready for pick-up...i really appreciate you making the call chiri!!

also...on a side note, i got a response from the shipping company and it looks like no customs fees were charged on my donations! YEAH!!
