Default Claret & Julieta, SD Centro (D.N.)

this may be a silly queston but im hoping someone can help me with this.

i am looking to rent an apartment in santo domingo this fall while im volunteering. i have seen a couple of apartments online in Claret and Julieta that i might be interested in.

given that i am on a budget and would like to save money on transportation by walking as much as possible, can anyone tell me if Claret and Julieta are close to/walking distance to and from the malecon and from the zona colonial? i will be volunteering near the adrian tropical on the malecon and will be taking spanish classes in the ZC so i would like to keep things close if i can. i would consider anything within a 45 minute walk close.

any info would be helpful.

thanks in advance!

oh...one more thing (kind of an important thing!)... can anyone tell me if these areas are relatively safe?

They are safe areas but not what I'd call walking distance from the Malecon and/or Gazcue. Julieta is the area west of Churchill, north of Gustavo Mejia Ricart. Claret (I think) is between Churchill and Lincoln, just south of JFK.

Default Chiri is right

....and a 45 minute walk in this city is not a joy to be anticipated, particularly not in the heat and humidity here not to mention sudden tropical rains that although relatively short, can soak you to the skin in seconds and leave streets flooded and often impassable on foot for more than half an hour afterwards. Even then you'll risk getting seriously splashed with dirty water kicked up by passing traffic.

Perhaps you'd be better off looking for an apartment in Gazcue to be near your work and within reasonable distance from the ZC......

Good luck!

Bryan
