Taxi, Airport-colonial Zone

I know this has been covered many times before but it gets a little confusing because some people say to do one thing, some say to do another.

I need to get a taxi from airport to colonial Zone, discovery hotel,

Do I take the "official taxi" and pay what I think is about 30 usd.

Or do I take one of the independents and pay less, and according to some, have a chance at getting mugged.

I would not get in a Taxi/Car service in NYC without T.&L.C. plates, I certainly would not do it in a 3rd world country (with my luggage and money on me!)

Jeeeez, just find a guy with legit ID and go..(how much do you think you'll penny pinch by going with a "free lancer")..I got a guy in the CZ, just called him today (from the U.S.) to pick me up at SDQ.....he charges $30....I give him $40......and I NEVER have to look for a ride!

Pennies here, pennies there....TIPPING is not a city in CHINA.
